This year’s tour is at one of the best known breweries in our region: Oakham. The home of Oakham Citra.
About the Brewery
Oakham Ales is a multi-award winning brewery with a worldwide reputation for its innovative approach and for the quality and consistency of its brews.
Founded in Oakham (Rutland) back in 1993 and now based in Peterborough, Oakham Ales is the home of much loved and hugely respected beers including Oakham JHB and Oakham Bishops Farewell.
Famous as the first UK brewery to brew a beer with 100% US sourced Citra hops, adding Oakham Citra and its big brother Green Devil IPA to our list of UK beer legends.
Oakham celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023 and is looking forward to many more exciting years at the forefront of high quality craft brewing
Tour details
The tour will be on the 1st of July 2023, we are lucky as Oakham don’t usually do brewery tours but have agreed to open their doors just for us. The tour will start from 12pm so advised to arrive at 11:30am and you will be expected to make your own way to and from the venue.
We will be given a tour and talk by the head brewer, the clone beers will then be judged, followed by some time in the tasting room. We will end the afternoon in the brewery tap.
PLEASE NOTE: They have a maximum capacity for 20 people and places will be given on a first come first served basis, so make sure you accept the event above if you wish to attend.
Clone Challenge
At the request of the brewery, we will be brewing a clone of their iconic beer, Citra.

The brewer has kindly given us details of their receipt and hopping schedule, they have also offered to supply Citra hops for us to use (their will be a cost and we will figure out logistics in the coming weeks).
When you accept this event more details will be emailed to you.
Anyone got a hop rocket/hop back? Angel homebrew do one for £119 😮 Or maybe making one wouldn’t be too hard?

My clone was brewed on Monday 8/5 with 2020 leaf hops using Steve Bennett’s compromise whirlpool. Seems to be OK.
